Yellow cells are yours, white cells calculate. Everything runs in your browser; nothing you type is sent anywhere.

The formula

engagement rate = (likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ base × 100, where the base is reach, followers or impressions. The calculator above uses whichever base you pick.

Which base to use

BaseUse it whenWatch out for
ReachYou're judging how good the content was. It only counts people who actually saw the post.Reach is only visible to the account owner, so you can't use it for other people's posts.
FollowersYou're comparing accounts, for example shortlisting creators, using public numbers.Posts that travel beyond the followers (common on TikTok) can score over 100%.
ImpressionsYou're comparing with ad results, which are usually reported per impression. One person seeing a post three times counts three times, so the rate comes out lower.

Pick one base and stick with it. A rate by reach and a rate by followers for the same post are different numbers, and most confusing reports come from mixing them.

Engagement rate for a month, not a post

Add up all engagements for the month and divide by the total reach for the month. Don't average the rates of each post: one small post with a high rate pulls the average up even though few people saw it. The full guide walks through an example.
