The formulas
| Number | Formula |
|---|---|
| Total cost | fee + product cost + other costs |
| Cost per 1,000 views | total cost ÷ views × 1,000 |
| Cost per click | total cost ÷ link clicks |
| Cost per sale | total cost ÷ orders |
| Return on spend | revenue ÷ total cost |
| ROI on profit | (revenue × gross margin − total cost) ÷ total cost |
Return on spend vs ROI
Return on spend says how much revenue each unit of money brought back: 3.0× means 3 back for every 1 spent. It ignores what the products cost you to make, so a campaign can show 2× and still lose money. ROI on profit takes your margin into account. Above 0% the campaign paid for itself; below 0% it didn't, at least not in direct sales.
Where the numbers come from
Views come from the creator's insights (ask for screenshots). Clicks, orders and revenue come from the creator's discount code or tracked link in your shop or analytics tool. Give every creator their own code, or you can't tell them apart. The full guide covers attribution and gifted collaborations.
